I think that the Sr.Moderator promotion system needs to be revamped.
Most of the staff that resign because the team is "corrupt" say that Admins are biased towards their friends when promoting mods to their team.
I also think trainee's need better evaluation. I literally see trainee's giving information which isn't even true.
Staff members should be required to interact and play with normal players and especially new players.
TM should also be more wary of which players really deserve trainee.
Have you noticed any patterns on what type of false information new staff members provide to the community?
I don't know about requiring staff to interact - a lot of us have varying positions. If you were willing to elaborate on what you meant, I think I'll be able to respond better.
Your last issue is definitely a known issue - we have a fairly smart TM team but I'm aware of what you're speaking of. I can't comment or respond/argue because I don't know what the recruitment team does to make the leap of faith in promoting someone to trainee.
I can say that there needs to be a stronger emphasis on users with thoroughness, team focused, and ambitious people who want to make differences - not just enjoy a new tag. In recent months, I've noticed fewer and fewer people. As a staff member myself, I'm completely biased and I should be dismissed from the jury box. I can still say that I see this ambition and level of thoroughness in many staff members - we just don't seem to realize it nor do we have the programs to bring out their potential and turn their focus on individualized support and teaching them that quality always defeats quantity.
I feel as if Mini-Modding should be more lenient, meaning, some people just want to help. However, the mini-modding rule should just be changed to, a staff members in your lobby/game and you're literally saying... "Please do not do this, etc." That should be Mini-Modding. Not things like stop using caps. This is, because sometimes caps can get annoying and players are literally like stop.
I don't think there is any problems on the staff team other than the appeal system and forum rules. I feel you should be able to appeal atleast 4 times.
People tend to let personal opinions get in the way of what's right. This meaning people have more leeway, and are able to get away with things that others aren't.
Currently I would say there are a few issues on the staff team that do need to be addressed. Some have to do with the way they operate, rules, or people on the team itself. That's not to say that things haven't improved nor things are bad, but there can always be improvement so Ye, here we go.
-Admin team: What I see as the main issue with staff team are mainly a couple people that are on it; that I don't think deserve to be. Mainly samD. I think everyone was caught off guard by his swift promotion to clans admin which in itself is questionable. But raising more dramas on this won't help anything. Anyways, in his time as clans admin he did not really do a good job. Clans had plenty of false bans, broken kits, and general kinks and features that should have been improved but were chosen not to. Now this is not to say that nothing ever happened, as things like a tutorial were added. But his general attitude to how he ran clans was what I'm more concerned about. He generally only cared about himself and his group of friends, not the server as a whole. This was exemplified not only on the server, but also on the forums and his YouTube channel. There of course are the old dramas and teamspeak stuff that have him swearing but once again, this as a singular event is largely irrelevant. I honestly have seen a lot better from the admin team. People like Relyh, bluebeetle, and sigils are generally very good in making new things, revamping things that need revamping, and interacting with the community. That is what I think the admin team needs.
-Transparency between upper level staff and lower level staff has been, lacking, as of late. There have been a few instances where, say, a trainee or a mod commented in game or on a forum post in response to a question about the rules & such. In these cases, the trainee or mod makes a huge gaffe that either contradicts a rule, or just contradicts any logic in itself. Now everyone makes mistakes from time to time and it is impossible for anyone to expect staff to be perfect. But
Part 2/2 At the same time, staff should have a general knowledge of changes to the rules, old rules, and just a general knowledge of the server. So in that regard I think there is defiantly room for improvement.
-Criticism handling. This is something the server has always struggled with. Now I will admit it has improved greatly over the past few months. But there are still quite a few instances where people shoot down criticism instead of trying to work with it and improve things. This also has to do with the fact that sometimes any criticism on some threads is deemed uncalled for and thus the warning points are handed out. The punishment as a whole is not that smart, and discouraging criticism with a punishment won't help anything. So either this punishment needs to be removed or some staff need to have better judgement when using it.
There are a few more things I could touch upon but none really have that much to do with staff (more so the forum rules/punishments, games, and the general server). Anyways have a nice day guys.
Samito is the source of many controversies and he's not the most professional person in the world. He doesn't need to be, and he shouldn't be. He's a nice person and he's a human - I like his work on Clans (as I'm biased) considering the success of the recent updates, however, this is still subjective. I don't like denying things on my wall and incessantly defending people, but to say that he doesn't deserve admin may be incorrect. Admin isn't earned easily, he did a lot of great things for Clans when he didn't need to - I think his time on the team was full of considerable difficulties (keep in mind that he essentially released one of the most complex factions game modes to ever be made in Minecraft) and he did what he could - and to be fair, it was quite a lot.
Internal transparency is a huge problem. We work in Slack (no secret) and announcements are regularly delayed as we have a large bureaucracy that decides issues before lower staff have the chance to even know about them. We need a stronger status team that can acknowledge, deter, identify, and resolve issues. There simply isn't the administration in place for that and certain things need to be acknowledged - of course, I can't cite examples, but this is an excellent point.
We do receive updates regarding rule changes, but these are regularly debated outside of 99% of the staff team's control/knowledge. 100% of the community doesn't know/agree with them. Most of the time, this isn't an issue; latter examples have proved otherwise (see: banning for users selecting a bugged kit). RC is one of the most elite teams that we have and they're not exactly about transparency, nor should they be. I respect their work but sometimes they need to encourage transparent sensibilities that allow staff working in lobbies and close to the community to have knowledge about possible changes.
Criticism handling - this happens internally, externally, in the real world, and here. Not much I can do about these rules, except encourage better j
New Trainees - April 1st
Congratulations to our 6 new Trainees!
Hylore , who lives in the US! Outside of Mineplex he enjoys Computer Science and also Community Management! He's friendly and has a vast amount of experience with Enjin and is overall a very dedicated hard worker!
Lack of communication between the staff team and the community is one of the main problems IMO, and has been one for quite a while. Yes, it has improved since the dramas February/March, for example, but it certainly needs improvement. Even if it is something as simple as not getting ignored by a staff member when you ask a question, or advanced as getting more community input on certain decisions, any step in this direction would be a good one.
Also, don't forget double standards within the staff team. I'm sure pretty much everyone would have been demoted several times over if they did some of the things SamitoD has done, for example. Although it hasn't really happened too much lately IIRC, it's still a glaringly obvious example.
Well, the community doesn't play a role in our communication because their input isn't ever given a quantitative value - that has far-reaching implications for all the teams that we run. In essence, I don't know how much our staff team values your feedback prior to making decisions, that definitely has to change.
There isn't much I can do or say about double standards. Favoritism, friendships, and existing hierarchies are powerful factors that motivate inequality, in any social structure, especially a staff team. I could offer ways to fight it but, as humans, we revert back to our nature. Psychologists have studied this stuff and they have all concluded that it's a part of who we are.
In our particular team, however, I know there isn't a lack of examples regarding these factors having huge effects on our team. Yet, people can still do good, be ambitious, and be rewarded without relationships and connections to get them places in life. It's considerably harder, yes, but it's equally rewarding. I can't comment much more, as this is an issue that I've come across myself.
We could try and make councils and review boards, however, those would be easily contaminated - knowing the current structure of our team. It's not an issue that's going to go anywhere anytime soon, we just have to work with it. Corporations and governments have found ways to benefit from it and we can too - the community will have to accept that this is a common aspect of any staff team (look at any server, business, nation, university, or even, your local soccer team) and you will see how in-group favoritism has drastic effects on any human and natural enterprise.
Sorry if this doesn't make too much sense, I think my mind may have been subconsciously half-asleep while writing this, since I could'nt think of much to say that easily
