Well all those investigators behind him were supposed to be essentially cannon-fodder. They're not adept at fighting ghouls at the level of the ones fighting with Kijima. In fact, had it not been for Furuta's presence, all the other investigators would have definitely died to the knight ghoul. However Furuta is an absolute badass, so he ended up survivng after hitting himself a few times to make it look like he actually struggled.
You could say that the reason they didn't interfere was because they would only hold kijima back.
