STAFF AND PLAYERS NEEDED

Hey! Sorry for posting on your wall but I need your help. Recently our server 'Parkourcraft' has been dropping and player count and it's not like what it was before. It used to be so fun with players coming on it everyday, and now barely a quater of what it used to be comes on at the highest peak of player count. A lot of us miss it and wish to see it again.

The server is awesome, we have parkour, customly made kitpvp with over 20+ kits, factions, guns, and creative. I really miss the days when I could get on kitpvp and have 20+ players all fighting eachother in the arena.

So please, come by when we have 20-30 players on and check it out, if you like it please support us by sharing the server with your close ones or just leave it on your enjinn wall. We're also looking for youtubers to bring us back up as well.

Have a great day.

And here's a sneak preview of our summer factions reset which you can find more about on our website.

I am currently trying to figure out how to use statistics to calculate the expected value (and possibly standard deviation) of rolling for stats in DND.

This would be easy, but the issue is that when you roll for stats, you roll a D6 4 times, and then drop the lowest. The complication of dropping one of the values makes it so I cant use (or at least, dont know how to use) a probability tree or P(x) table, which is what I would normally do.

So yeah, thats what this nerd is doing over the summer.
9
so for things like this when you cant easily see a way, just use a computer ! there are a finite amount of possible rolls here (6^4). Using a computer program to just iterate over every possibility and compute the average through "brute force".

heres the program i wrote (python !)

Screen_Shot_2018-06-26_at_21.48.49._479.png

as you can see it appears the expected value appears to be 12.2446 (15869 / 1296)

This is indeed higher than the expected value of 3.5*3 for just straight up 3 d6 rolls.

as for standard deviation use the same approach find the mean (just did) and then brute force the SD formula using every possible state.
The thing is I want to find a way to get this with statistics, not just a brute force program.

Though I am interested in what you are doing specifically in that program now that Im looking at it. What are the 'for' d1/d2 lines doing? And does python seriously have a min command for selecting the minimum value of whatever you have as the parameter?
so yeah in python min(a, b, c) returns the minimum value over a,b, and c ! very convenient. it would take like 3 lines to write a min function if there wasnt one implemented so nbd.

so the dice is a list that goes [1, 2, 3, 4, 5,6 ] (you see it generated in the first line).

the for loop loops over ever element in the list given (dice).

so each loop has a variable assigned to it (d1 for the first etc) that can be called within the loop to use the value it's currently at.

because these loops are nested the logic they follow is:
d1 = 1, d2 = 1, d3 = 1, d4 = 1. execute code inside loops.

now: d1 = 1, d2 = 1, d3 = 1, d4 = 2. repeat etc

once d4 finishes its cycle over the 6 options the d3 increments. the system now looks like d1 = 1, d2 = 1, d3 = 2, d4 = 1 (d4 starts over again bc its entered into afresh from the d3 loop).

as you can see this means that every possible combination of rolling 4 d6 is contained in this looping system. Then, it just uses the right code inside to analyze what needs doing.

as for a statistical way to do it ehhhhhh you could write all 1296 states out by hand if that makes it more realistic to you.

consider though the fact that the average i computed is irreducible. this suggests that there may be no easy trick to make this work.
Actually, can you get it to print out the total # of each end value? (I.E: 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.). That I believe I can work with
3 : 3
4 : 16
5 : 50
6 : 126
7 : 266
8 : 496
9 : 819
10 : 1220
11 : 1628
12 : 2004
13 : 2236
14 : 2240
15 : 1965
16 : 1504

DND (or Dungeons and Dragons) is a table top roleplaying game
If you want to play, I'd recommend looking some things up online, particularly the players handbook

The issue with "Hey there!" posts is NOT that they are 'required'. The issue is that a lot of the posts with fanciful text and "Hey there!" or "Have a nice day / night!" beginnings / endings are not added as a reflection of the individuals temperament or personality. Instead they are often done in a sort of hive mind mentality.

Saying Hey There! adds nothing to the thread, and holds effectively no meaning when it is something that is always added, just for the sake of being added. A lot of these posts are also hard to read, and add nothing to the discussion. Despite this, for some reason people who consistently make useless posts that are difficult to read and add nothing are not warned despite it going against multiple forum rules. For website rules it going against Troll posts/threads (intentionally difficult to read text), post boosting (posting an answer or content that has already been repeated several times), and for forum guidelines it should be considered a pointless post/thread.

A lot of the people who do this use the fact that 'positive' posts that show Mineplex in a favorable light are typically not warned (even when they technically break the rules), or the fact that some aspects of post boosting are not enforced basically at all to increase their post count.

In some cases the users are clearly 'fake' and only using fanciful texts and stuff to try and 'fit in' or look good. Some of them also just suck up to staff: you know, the people who go onto forums and immediately friend 3 admins and a bunch of mods and literally nobody else, then copy what they say onto their wall, and then the second a staff is demoted / resigned they dont care about them anymore? Yeah. Them.

There was so much of this when I started the forums, I used do "hey there" before all my replies because I thought that was just how you were supposed to start your comment.

Yeah. It's become a hive mind culture, rather than something people trying to be helpful or formal actually say.
it's called pretty posting and they've been doing it since qp

Yeah, I only mention it because apparently people started talking about it again recently /shrug

So uh
I got jaw surgery yesterday (basically, my lower jaw was moved forward to mitigate an overbite that was going to cause problems for me later in life)

and damn, my jawline looks handsome AF now

HIGHLY recommend watching a smaller D2 PvP highlight video I made. I recorded some really nice clips, and this is just a couple of the better ones and one REALLY crazy clip.

Highlighting some sweet plays from the Crucible . . . I had joked about using this meme in may... at the beginning of 2017. I did not specify May of which year.
