Yes, getting fire aspect in Survival Games is completely legit. I have done it quite a few times myself.
I find that it is easier to get fire aspect (as well as Sharpness II and better enchants in general, including on armor) when using gold, because every time I get fire aspect and almost every time I get sharpness II it's with a golden sword.
Also Mineplex customized the golden sword to make it deal the exact same damage as an iron sword. So if you can make a golden sword, throw out your stone sword and use a golden one instead! Now comes with better enchants :]

You made it sound kind of confusing when you said it deals same damage as iron sword, then you said throw out your stone sword and replace for gold, so gold does same as iron not stone right?
^ (Eccentricities) that's what I was going for. Normally I have a stonesword, but if I am able to get a golden sword I would throw out the stone sword. It made sense in my head, but I understand how not many people could make that leap.
